RECreate is a youth recreation program that offers high quality, accessible, and educational recreation activities to youth in the Central City area. RECreate participants are ages 5-14. Activities take place at the Harmony Oaks Community Center and A.L. Davis Park in Central City. RECreate holds two 10-week seasons per year; one within the Fall and one within the Spring. Sessions are held every Saturday and include a variety of educational, cultural and recreational activities. Some activities in the past have included specialty clinics for soccer, rugby, taekwondo, hula hoop fitness, tennis, horseback riding, and basketball. Breakfast and lunch are provided for all of the RECreate participants and volunteers each Saturday. Participants and volunteers are also given RECreate shirts to wear to signify that they are a part of the program.
All volunteers must attend volunteer training at the beginning of the season and pass a national and local criminal background check. Although the RECreate seasons are 10-weeks long, volunteers are not required to commit to coming all 10 Saturdays. On Saturday mornings volunteers are needed to play games with youth participants, help with crafts, help with athletic programming and overall keep participants engaged. For volunteer opportunities, check the RECreate Calendar.
