Barbara Johnson brings over 20 years of experience leading innovative approaches to growing economic prosperity in the New Orleans region. Before starting her own business strategy firm in 2009, The Johnson Group, Barbara held executive positions at the Bureau of Governmental Research,
New Orleans Downtown Development District (DDD), Metro Vision Economic Development Partnership and Greater New Orleans, Inc.
Her career has focused on building partnerships to drive positive community change. As Deputy Director of the DDD, Barbara spearheaded the District’s 1986 comprehensive plan and the Urban Land Institute’s Canal Street Revitalization Panel. Barbara galvanized regional collaboration of public and private sectors in the creation of Greater New Orleans, Inc., as President and CEO of the Metro Vision Economic Development Partnership and the New Orleans Regional Chamber of Commerce. While at GNO,Inc., she also championed $25 million in funding for workforce development and higher education to address critical workforce shortages in key industry sectors.
Barbara has been a leader in civic organizations including the Women’s Professional Council, the New Orleans Regional Leadership Institute, the Center for Development and Learning, Christopher Homes, Providence Housing, and the University of New Orleans (UNO) International Alumni Association. Barbara was a recipient of the City Business Women of the Year Award and was recognized by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) as a Fellow Member for her outstanding contribution to IEDC and the field of economic development.
