NEW ORLEANS, LA – In the aftermath of widespread flooding across Houston and other parts of southeast Texas from Hurricane Harvey, Young Leadership Council (YLC) is launching two initiatives to support those displaced and affected.
Through September 12, 2017, YLC will donate five percent of proceeds from Role Model Awards Gala ticket sales to support the thousands of people recovering from Hurricane Harvey. YLC’s annual Role Model Awards Gala plays an important role in the financial support of the organization’s vital community service projects. To date, this event has raised over $2.5 million towards improving the quality of life for all New Orleanians. This year, the organization will utilize this notable event to bring awareness to the situation in Houston, and raise funds for those in need.
Led by the volunteers and project leaders of YLC Assists, YLC is partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank to host a donation drive of nonperishable food items, cleaning supplies, and personal hygiene items. One of YLC’s 12 volunteer-led community service projects, YLC Assists organizes service opportunities, in partnership with other non-profit organizations, enabling participants to give back to the people of New Orleans. Throughout the month of September, donated items will be collected at YLC’s office, located at 1840 Euterpe St., between 9 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday.

“As an organization rooted in New Orleans, we understand first-hand how critical outside support can be when it comes to disaster relief and recovery,” said Stephanie Powell, Executive Director of the YLC. “It is only right that we return the generosity and support to those who were there when we needed them most.”
