Volunteer in the Arts

What is it?

Volunteer in the Arts (VITA) promotes volunteer opportunities for cultural events throughout the city in an effort to support the rich artistic culture of New Orleans. VITA is a popular project for new members as it gives volunteers an easy and fun way to get involved one event at a time.

Past events have included Tales of the Cocktail, SweetArts by the Contemporary Arts Center, Carnivale du Vin by the Emeril Lagasse Foundation, Prospect, French Quarter Festival, the New Orleans Wine & Food Experience, NOLA Fashion Week, the Tennessee Williams Literary Festival, White Linen Night, Art for Arts’ Sake, American Cancer Society’s Belles & Beaus Ball and many more.

What do we do?

VITA project leaders work with event coordinators to identify and promote, on average, two volunteer opportunities per month.  Volunteer opportunities are publicized through the VITA listserv, the YLC Weekly Mark e-newsletter, and the YLC online calendar.  Each event listing includes an email address or webpage through which volunteers can sign up.

Volunteers are asked to complete a wide range of duties, including event set up, serving as auction spotters, VIP section attendants, food and beverage attendants, coat-check, front entrance attendants, raffle ticket sales, greeters, runners, bar-backs, merchandise table attendants, and event break-down!
