Role Model

Becker Hall & Rene Louapre

Hogs for the Cause

Annually since 1986, YLC has selected a class of outstanding New Orleanians who serve as Role Models by actively contributing to the betterment of the Greater New Orleans region. These individuals are an inspiration to YLC’s young professional members and to the community at large.

In 2009, childhood friends Becker Hall and Rene Louapre started Hogs for the Cause with the idea of having a pig roast on the Fly. Since then, Hogs for the Cause has grown to become the premier funding source for Pediatric Brain Cancer Outreach services in the country. The nonprofit organization provides aid and relief of the variable expenses and economic burdens which families face while their child is being treated for pediatric brain cancer. Since its inception, Hogs has grown into one of the largest BBQ and music festivals in the country. Becker and Rene have overseen the growth from one pig and 200 patrons to 100 BBQ teams, 30,000 patrons and millions raised for the cause.

Prior to becoming CEO of Hogs For The Cause, Becker worked in corporate finance and enjoyed a ten-year career in institutional equity sales for a boutique oil and gas investment bank in New Orleans. He earned his BA from the University of South Carolina and an MBA from the University of New Orleans. Becker is also the co-founder of H&L et Filles Winery.

In addition to his role with Hogs for the Cause, Rene Louapre joined Bradley Murchison Kelly & Shea’s New Orleans office as Special Counsel in 2019.  His practice focuses on healthcare regulatory, compliance and contract issues across the state of Louisiana.  Rene also maintains a general corporate practice, particularly advising those in the hospitality industry and the nonprofit sector.
