Leadership Development Series

Since 2003, YLC has hosted a Leadership Development Series (LDS) as a service to its members. While we have been developing leadership in our members since 1986 through hands on volunteerism, LDS is YLC's formalized leadership course that teaches members the skills required to run a non-profit organization or a YLC project.

How it works

The Leadership Development Series (LDS) is a 10-week series that engages young leaders with an interest in nonprofit management and development. LDS offers a hands-on approach, allowing class participants the unique opportunity to lead a project with a local nonprofit organization.

Each week, participants receive specific direction and guidance from community leaders on a vital topic of non-profit and civic engagement. Class topics range from volunteer recruitment, fundraising, community relations, and marketing. Throughout the series, class members apply what they learn to the projects in which they are working.

Past LDS guest speakers have included:

  • Michael Hecht | GNO Inc.

  • Andrea Chen | Propeller

  • Lee Zurik | Fox 8 News

  • Mark Romig | New Orleans Tourism and Marketing

  • Patrick Comer | Lucid

  • Wes Palmisano | Palmisano Construction

How Do I Apply?

Entry to the class is competitive with approximately 30 students accepted each year. Class members are selected through an application process. If selected to participate, class members must pay a tuition fee of $135 which covers all program costs and materials.

The application period for the 2019 Young Leadership Council (YLC) Leadership Development Series is now open. Click here to apply.
